Wednesday is the official last day of school.  ECA busses will run back to the schools at 10:30am, but students who have their own transportation and want to stay for lunch will be provided a hotdog, drink, and chips.

Teachers' grades are due in Wednesday and report cards should be mailed home by the end of the week.

There are some changes in the APS calendar for next year. You can view the calendar at this link http://www.aps.edu/schools/school-calendars/school-calendars#2016-2017-calendar. An ECA school calendar will be included in your registration materials in August with more specific information and dates for our school.

Returning ECA students will register on August 3th from 12-2pm or 4-6pm. Students will pickup their schedules and complete paperwork at that time. A reminder letter will be sent over the summer to the current home address we have in the school records. New students will register on August 4th from 1-3pm.

If your student is planning to transfer to another school, please let us know asap. You will need to come into the office and officially withdraw your student with Ms Lovato before they can register at another school. We have an extensive list of students on a waitlist for ECA, so please let us know so we can offer spots to students on the waitlist.

The schedule of classes for the Fall at CNM is now online at www.cnm.edu! Students who are taking classes in the summer can register for fall as early as May 31st . New student and open registration begins June 6, 2016 for the Fall term at CNM. Classes will fill up fast so be ready to register early if your student plans to take fall classes.  Classes begin Aug 29th at CNM for fall term.

Attached is the flyer for Summer School registration. Parents and students can register at the APS City Center. Summer school term 1 begins June 6th and payments are due on the day of registering.

The school will be open from 9am-2pm everyday weekday except May 27th, May 30th, July 4th, and 5th.

See attached message from ECA parents Esther Cordova and Norma Llanes.

Please take time to look at your transcript, be sure you know what you need to be on track to graduate next year, be thinking about colleges to apply to, get signed up to take the ACT or the SAT if you haven't already, and get enrolled for a dual credit class if you haven't already. Senior year goes fast- the more you can do now- the better!

School starts August 11th.

In closing, I want to thank all of you for a great year. We have such an amazing group of students, parents, teachers, and staff at ECA and CEC and I know I have the best job in APS! This year was filled with many highs and accomplishments. We said goodbye and congratulations to an amazing group of Seniors and I look forward to seeing and hearing where their futures take them. It's exciting and I am so proud of them. We welcomed an incredible group of hungry and energetic freshman that took ECA by storm and blossomed into high schoolers.  ECA and CEC earned even more recognition and accolades- and I think this led to all of our classes and school being filled by mid-January this year and having a waiting list at every grade.

Enjoy your summer in whatever ways you do... the time will go fast and we will all be back at it again soon enough.

Be safe and be well-

October 2015

UNM SENIOR DAY: UNM will host its’ annual SENIOR DAY on Oct 3rd from 8:30-2pm.  Students can get tours of the campus, hear presentations about Lobo life, attend a luncheon and an Information Fair- for free.  Participants must register at www.admission.unm.edu/seniorday.

UNM/NMSU ADMISSIONS: Both schools will be here on Tuesday Oct 13th and will walk interested Seniors through the admissions process - for FREE.  Students who do not attend can still apply online to UNM and have fees waived before Oct 1st.    We will require ALL seniors to apply to UNM even if they do not plan to attend.  It is good practice and always good to have a backup.

SENIOR TRIP: Senior trip to Santa Fe is on October 14th from 7:30-2:00. Each student will need to pay $10 for this trip.

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery will be available to interested students on Oct 1st at 9:00am.  The test is a great career interest inventory used by the military to help people identify their aptitudes.   The results are NOT used or sent to the Armed Services in any way- unless requested.  The test takes about 3 hours so students may need to plan with their teachers for assignments on that day.  See Ms Ramsey to sign up.

HAUNTED HOUSE: We are requesting donations for our annual Haunted House! We are in need of food & beverages for volunteers, strobe lights/Halloween lights, masks/costumes, make-up/fake teeth/fake nails, fake bones, baby dolls, bales of hay, and any other Halloween-themed items. Donations can be dropped off during school hours and are tax deductible. Cash or checks payable to CEC are also welcome before October 20th. If you have any questions regarding the event, please contact Gabino Noriega at noriega_g@aps.edu or 505-247-3658 x45468   And, please mark your calendars to attend our Haunted House on Saturday, October 24th from 5:00-11:00PM!

PARENT GRADE-VUE:An important component of this program is that parents will have real-time access to students’ grades, attendance, progress, and teacher communications.   Please be checking your student’s progress in their classes at www.mystudent.aps.edu and contact our registrar, Maritza Lewellen, at lewellen@aps.edu if you are having problems with ParentVUE.

6 WEEK GRADING PERIOD:The first 6 week grading period ended Sept 23.  Report cards will go through 2nd period teachers on Wednesday.

LSA:Lunch Support for Academics begins officially today for any student with a D or an F in any class at ECA/CEC.  Parents and students will be contacted and students are expected to make their own arrangements for lunch on the days they are assigned to LSA.

TEACHER CONFERENCES: Please be in touch with me, or Ms Floryance, if you would like to schedule a meeting with your student's teachers.  2pm is the best time to get everyone in attendance.

The PSAT will be given to all 10th graders, for free, on Oct 14th.  10th graders will be excused from classes that morning.  Any 11th grader who wants to take the PSAT can also test if they are willing the pay the 14$ fee.  See Ms Thomas, or Mr Lucero, by Sept 25th.

ATTENDANCE: Please call your student’s absences into our attendance line (x45596) and leave a message or contact the attendance secretary Aly Valdez at alyssa.valdez@aps.edu. Teacher emails are listed in the student agendas AND on the ECA website at www.cec.aps.edu.

ZUMBA: Staff, parents, and students- Remember that we now have ZUMBA after school in portable B6 on Tuesdays at 5:00- and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5:30. This class is the best deal around for only $3 drop in, or $25.00 for a ten punch card. Try your first class for free!  This class is open to the community!  Come experience the power of dance!

NO SCHOOL: We will NOT have school Oct 8-9 for Fall Break.

ALUMNI NEEDED:This is just a reminder that we are seeking alumni contact information so that we can start building our invitee list for the upcoming Haunted House and CEC 40th Anniversary Party this spring.  If you can please email LeighAnn Babel the following information (if you know it!) so that we can start assembling a guest list, it would greatly be appreciated.  Her email is leighann.babel@aps.edu.
